Long Live Bookstores!

There is no substitution for the weight of a book in your hands, the feel of the pages on between your fingers, savoring the illustrations, or even the moment when a book’s cover alone has the power to stop you in the aisle of a bookstore. Hardly surprising sentiments from a publisher of books. I adore browsing through a bookstore and I thoroughly enjoyed this article by Alexandra Petri in the Washington Post.

Sale in the Sea

A wonderful thing about one of the courses I’m currently taking is the ability to apply the lessons to my real-life business. Including the birth of this blog. I feel that over the past two weeks I’ve been immersed in a sea of social media marketing basics and I really look forward to the time when the application of these tools feels a bit more familiar and I’m not longer treading water, but familiar and fluent with the strokes.

That said, I am pretty giddy for having successfully launched and linked our latest Valentine’s Day promotional book sale to our company Facebook and Twitter pages (and right now on our blog!) as additional outlets to our email marketing promotions. Basic? Yes. But there is an undeniable thrill with just getting into the water.

In Withdrawals

Image

Its only been a week since I began two courses in my second semester of coursework for a marketing certificate program that I’m enrolled in. And I’m already mourning the absence of free time. In particular, to read whatever my heart desires. As the stack of neglected and unread books continues to build beside my bed (pictured above), I already long for an afternoon, much like today, that’s comprised of overcast skies, the aroma of homemade bolognese sauce simmering in the kitchen, a quiet house and uninterrupted time with a book that captures my heart. I’ll miss it, but I’ll dig in. Instead I’ll focus on school in between chasing after the kids and getting work done. But I’ll be dreaming of the day when I can once again put my feet up and savor one of those little treats waiting for me in the next room.
